Imphal, September 24 2023:
Dialogue is the only means to end the months-long violence in Manipur which has rendered thousands of people homeless, said All Manipur Democratic Women's Association (AMDWA) president Ningthoukhongjam Sundari.
She made the remark during the 28th foundation day of AMDWA held at Manipur Press Club, today.
At the function, Sundari said that the Government needs to use all its resources in preventing hostility between the parties in conflict and pave a way for the leaders of the two warring communities to hold dialogue.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), vice president L Tilotama, Dean of Bodoland University Assam (Commerce and Management Studies) Professor A Ibemcha Chanu, and social activist Thounaojam Brinda also attended the programme among others.
AMBWA is affiliated with All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) which is one of the largest women's organisations in the world.
Sundari continued that AMBWA has been extending help to displaced people taking refuge at relief camps.
The Government must make sure that there are no more gunfights and violence between the two sides for the dialogue to happen, she said and reiterated that dialogue is indispensable to end the ongoing crisis.
She asked the Centre and the State Government to take responsibility for all the killing and violence taking place in Manipur for allowing the violence to linger on despite heavy deployment of Central security forces in the State.
