E-book cannot replace physical books: Prof Rajmuhon

The 29th Imphal Book Fair 2022, which was organised by State Central Library, Imphal in association with Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata concluded at Tiddim Ground, Kwakeithel, here, on Tuesday.
DM University vice-chancellor professor N Rajmuhon, who attended the closing cer emony as chief guest, said that internet has become a knowledge bank for the present generation as one can access the world on their palm.
With advancement in modern technology and internet, e-book has become a trend for book lovers.
However, e -books can never replace the taste of reading a physical book no matter how far the technology has advanced.
Besides, there are people who collect books as a hobby.
Organising such book fairs is indeed a good initiative from the side of State Central Library as it provides a common platform where one can find all types of books at one place.
He further said that the 21st century is the era of knowledge.
In this age, quality education is crucial for promoting better and applicable knowledge among the younger generations.
Quality education should have humane, moral and spiritual values and these would help in enhancing the pace of development in the society, he said.
People of the state have inborn potential and talent in the field of science and technology.
Establishing premier institutes, which can provide platforms to the talented youth can bring the state on the global map of IT sector.
Education in IT sector should begin from a young age and children should be exposed to inspirational stories and ideas so that they could be motivated to choose their carcer in this field, he added.
Art and culture commissioner M Joy cm phasised on cultivating the habit of reading among the children and said that teachers and parents have major role to play in this regard.
There is the need to strengthen library movement in the state.
However, new books should be added to the shelves in the libraries to keep them relevant with the changing demand and need.
Educational institutes should also add more and more books in their library to keep the students motivated and explore new knowledge.
Prizes were distributed to winners of the different competitions organised as part of the book fair during the closing ceremony.
Books and Coffee was presented Best Book Stall award on the occasion, which was also attended by TRAU secretary general T Phulen as guest of honour.
