Speaking at the occasion, KK Chhetry observed that Chavaan Kumhrin is an important festival which could be made a part of Manipur tourism, and assured that he would try his level best for the recognition and inclusion of the festival in Manipur tourism.
Manipur is a land blessed with natural beauty and so, giving adequate attention to development of rural tourism, Eco tourism and adventure tourism would help in accelerating the economic activities of the State.
But frequent imposition of bandh and blockade has been discouraging the tourists from coming to visit Manipur, he pointed out.
The Commissioner admitted that Manipur is still lagging far behind the rest of the world in the field of tourism development and reaping its benefit.
It is also one sector where the Government has not provided adequate fund.
Nonetheless, the State Government has started paying attention to development of tourism, the Commissioner said, while disclosing that plans are afoot for developing necessary infrastructures for making Anal Khullen village in Chandel district as a destination for rural tourism by 2013-14 .
The Chavaan Kumhrin celebration reached its crescendo in the evening with the stage ablaze with Chamdil Idol-2011 contest and traditional fashion parade.
