10 cops among 237 pulled up for lifting vehicle: Gaikhangam

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also the Home Minister, informed the State Assembly today that a total of 237 people including 10 police personnel were pulled up in connection with vehicle theft cases during the period from April 1, 2012 till date.
Replying to a query raised by MLA L Ibomcha on the matter, Gaikhangam said that 10 security personnel including four IRB, three VDF and commandos were among the people arrested for vehicle lifting from different parts of the State and elaborated that 116 people including one IRB and three VDF personnel were pulled up during April 1, 2012 and December 31, 2013 while 83 people including three IRB and one commando personnel were arrested during January 1, 2013 and December 2014 .
He further informed that during the period from January 2014 to July 18, a total of 38 people including two police personnel were arrested for vehicle theft cases.
Saying that 109 vehicles out of the total vehicles lifted have been already handed over to their respective owners while 21 vehicles are yet to be handed over, the Dy CM informed that 193 people are in judicial custody in connection with these cases while 44 are on bail.
Charge sheet has been filed in connection with one while investigation is going on for other remaining cases, the Deputy Chief Minister said, adding that departmental action is being taken up against the security personnel involved in the cases and one VDF personnel has been already terminated from service.
Gaikhangam went on to inform that altogether 2415 cadres of various underground outfits were arrested from different parts of the State including 19 from outside the State during the period from April 1, 2012 to till date and seized an amount of Rs 61, 86, 723 from their possession.
A total of 1158 cadres out of the total arrested are in judicial custody while 8 cadres are in police custody.
The number of cadres who were released on bail is 1270, Gaikhangam said .
Responding to query raised by MLA RK Anand, Veterinary Minister Govindas Konthoujam said that the estimated cost for the construction of District Veterinary Hospital at Mekola, which is going on, is Rs 83.21 lakhs and an amount of Rs 81.58 lakhs has been already released.
70 percent of the construction work has been completed and the government is targeting to complete the work by October this year.
Minister Govindas while replying to questions raised by MLA Kh Joykishan said that 2077 applicants were selected by District Level Task Force under Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme for the year 2013-14 and the bank has already sanctioned the amount for 276 applicants.
