The All Thoubal District United Club's Organisation (ATDUCO) has condemned the decision of the Union Home Minister to make Hindi a compulsory subject for students upto Class X in all the North Eastern States.
In a statement issued today ATDUCO said Hindi is not the mother tongue of Manipur and should not be imposed on the students of the State who will be the future pillars of the society.
Petition filed by one Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay at the Supreme Court to make Hindi compulsory at schools for 'National Unity' was rejected by the then Chief Justice of India Justice JS Khehar, added the statement.
ATDUCO added that the Chief Minister and the 59 other elected MLAs should take a decision in the interest of the people at the earliest in this regard.
