Aizawl, November 22 2013 :
The concentration of Brus and Chakmas in Mizoram has caused alarm, according to Zo Re Unification Organisation (ZORO) and Mizo Students' Union (MSU) .
"According to Lushai Hills District Cover (an administrative rule) constituted under the erstwhile British government for the administration of Lushai Hills, the Chakmas and Tiperra(Brus) which the Mizos called them racially as Tuikuk and Chakmas are not the original inhabitants of Lushai Hills, now known as Mizoram and the concentration of them in Lushai Hills was strictly restricted," Zodinpuia, the president of Mizo Student Union (MSU) told media.
The MSU president denied both the Chakmas and Tiperra of Mizoram natives claiming the two tribal groups recently infiltrated into Mizoram due to an expulsions and outstations by other stronger tribes from elsewhere.
Deputy Commissioner MacCall while writing about the administration of Lushai Hills in his Lushai 'District Cover' mentioned that Chakma and Tiperra are not a native of Lushai Hills, the MSU leader pointed out.
"Despite the restriction imposed on Chakmas and Tiperra, some of them were allowed to reside within Mizoram due to unavoidable circumstances.
According to Mizoram Statistical Record of 1941, there were only a meagre 18 number of Chakma and Tiperra", Zodinpuia said.
After the achievement of Independence by India, Burma and Pakistan, the Lushai Hills hitherto under the administrative jurisdiction of Lushai Hills Foreign Department was integrated to Assam province.
After this integration there was a remarkable change in Chakma and Tiperra areas within Mizoram leading to population explosion of the two tribes, said larders of the two organizations-ZoRO and MSU, adding the population of Chakma and Tiperra as per the 1971 general census was 80,000 and the District council under Sixth Scheduled of Indian constitution has also been instituted on behalf of the Chakmas.
Speaking about Bru (Tuikuk), ZoRO said Brus have recently come to Mizoram by force migration as they have been expelled by other stronger tribes from the land they were inhabiting previously.
"We are trying our best effort to re-instate the Bu in their own land", ZoRO said.
"The prediction that one day a time will come when the Mizo girls have to garland a Chakma minister.
And who can denied that a Bengali Minister would not be served by Mizo girls in future," ZORO also said.
Mizoram as of now according to leaders of ZoRO and MSU, has been invaded by these two tribes.
