Bomb attack at Heirok fails, locals condemn

Kakching, September 22 2011: Many people today escaped unhurt when a bomb attack at the residence of one Paonam Brojen of Heirok Lamkhai failed to explode.

The failed bomb attack was carried out by two unknown youths who came on a Bajaj Pulsar, according to people who witnessed the scene.

According to witnesses, the incident took place at around 4.30 pm today when the two unidentified youths who came on a red colour Pulsar threw a grenade towards the residence of Paonam Brojen who will be contesting the upcoming 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.

However, the bomb hit the rear side of a Tata Magic which came from the opposite side of the Pulsar and could not reach the compound of Brojen's house.

Fortunately, the bomb failed to explode even after the pin fell off the grenade.

The two fled the scene towards Imphal as soon as the bomb failed to explode.

Brojen was not at his home when the incident took place as he was attending a meeting at Khongjom.

Brojen told Hueiyen Lanpao that the bomb attack at his office was an unfortunate incident.

He said that he has been taking up many income generation schemes for the people of Wangjing Tentha AC and working to bring a green revolution in the area.

It is unfortunate that many unidentified persons are making huge monetary demand to him which even led to bomb attack which could have claimed lives of many innocent people.

While condemning the incident he appealed to the concerned persons not to repeat such act in future.

The All Wangjing Development Organisation (AWDO) also condemned the incident.

Bomb squad of Manipur police later recovered the bomb.
