Govindas hopes state figures in Modi's 100-day menu
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, June 19 2024: Works minister K Govindas has said that chief minister N Biren Singh did not attend the high-level meeting chaired by Union home minister Amit Shah to review the security situation in Manipur as the meeting was meant for executives only and not for politicians.

While conceding that there is no minute information on outcome of the security review meet held on Monday in New Delhi, Govindas said that the Manipur issue will surely figure in the 100 days action programme of the third term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government.

Addressing media persons at Thambal Shan-glen of state BJP office, here, on Wednesday , K Govindas reminded that India is a democratic country having its own Constitution and rule of law across the states.

In-spite of the fact that could be certain issues which cannot be commented in the public platform or acted upon by a state, chief minister N Biren Singh has been doing whatever he could at his level best for the people of Manipur, he elaborated, while reiterating that the new 100-day action programme of PM Narendra Modi is likely to prominently find mention on the Manipur and the Centre will take steps to end the crisis.

Disagreeing with various social media posts demanding resignation of CM, ministers and MLAs in the wake of security review meet chaired by Amit Shah without the participation of CM Biren, Govindas said that now is the time to bring unity and resolve the crisis instead of trying to take political mileage or gain popularity.

Reacting sharply to the allegations levelled by the Congress party that the security review meeting without inviting the chief minister was in violation of the 7th Schedule of Indian Constitution, the minister reminded that Manipur has a security advisor appointed by the Union government to oversee law and order of the state.

Security advisor Kuldiep Singh also currently holds the post of chairman of the Unified Command and he attended the security review meeting as it was a meeting of the executives and not for politicians, K Govindas said.

While maintaining that state DGP, chief secretary and security advisor attended the security meeting chaired by Amit Shah though CM Biren did not attend the same, he contended that the security review meeting did not dishonour the people of Manipur at all.

He then termed Congress leader Pawan Kher's 'No confidence motion against Manipur CM' remark with reference to CM Biren's absence in the security meeting as 'very unfortunate' and said that CM Biren will surely attend the upcoming DONER ministry's security meeting on NE region.

According to K Govindas, there seems to be a group of people playing politics against ending the crisis in Manipur and time has come to identify them.

Instead of playing such dirty politics, all should discuss together and approach the Government of India collectively on how to bring back peace and normalcy, he stressed and appealed to those trying to draw mileage amid suffering of the people to stop their nefarious acts.

Responding to a query on allegations by opposition parties against CM Biren cancelling the Jiribam visit, K Govindas opined that the opposition leaders seem to be bereft of any serious task other than oppose whatever the administration does and speak against the government.

There could be some reasons for the delay in CM Biren's Jiribam visit, he said, adding that both the Central and state governments are working hard to bring back peace in Jiribam.

While condemning the attack on an advance security convoy of CM Biren when he was planning to visit Jiribam, K Govindas said that the attack was carried out by those who do not want to bring peace and the entire people of Manipur condemned the attack.
