Govt emphasising on health of people: CM Biren

Imphal, December 18 2021: Chief minister N Biren Singh has said that government is giving special emphasis on activities related with health of entire people of the state.

The chief minister declared the government's initiative during flagging off ceremony of a two-day 'Eat Right Mela and Walkathon' which is being organised by Food Safety Administration of state health department and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), New Delhi as part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' celebration in commemoration of 75th year of India's independence from the directorate of health services office at Lamphelpat on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering, CM Biren said that identification of imported edible items not certified by FSSAI is underway by setting up mobile teams.

He also said that government is working on gradual replacement of the chemicals used in agriculture and farming activities by organic fertilisers as this would help in keeping good health of the people by consuming good food.

The walkathon flagged off by CM Biren and participated by officials of health department, staff nurses, college students and employees working in food manufacturing units of the state culminated at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound.

The chief minister also attended the foundation day celebration of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) held at its auditorium on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, N Biren highlighted that the government has taken up various welfare initiatives which primarily focuses on health and education sector for the well-being and welfare of the people.

He stated that under the recently introduced "Health for All" scheme, the doctors, nurses and health care workers are providing doorstep health check-ups and delivery of medicines to different sections of society.

While appreciating doctors, nurses, ASHA workers and paramedics for their priceless contribution-towards saving precious lives during the first and second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, he also urged the medical professionals to maintain professionalism and ethics while serving the people.

The chief minister maintained that the state government is continuously persuading the centre for upgrade of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) to the level of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) while mentioning that a Cancer hospital would be set up at JNIMS soon under the PPP model.

At the same time, the government is urging the Health Ministry to increase the MBBS seats at JNIMS, he added.

Expressing, elation that Manipur won three awards at State of States' Award 2021 and conferred the Most Improved Small State Overall, Best Performing Small State in Governance and Best Improved Small State in Agriculture, he conceded that the government could achieve such prestigious awards due to the collective effort and support of the people of the state.

On the other-hand, the CM inaugurated PSA Oxygen Plant, CT-Scan machine at JNIMS and State Bank of India, JNIMS Branch.

Biren and other dignitaries handed over the meritorious awards to the toppers of JNIMS.

Advisor to chief minister (Health) Dr Sapam Ranjan, LDA and MSPDCL chairman L Susindro Meitei, additional chief secretary (Health) V Vumlunmang, JNIMS director Dr L Deben Singh, teaching and non-teaching staff of JNIMS and students were present during the function.
