Noney landslide: First body of five missing locals retrieved

The body of a woman buried under the debris of Makhuam village landslide was retrieved after 18 days of the catastrophic landslide.
The victim has been identified as Thuisiniiu Gondaimei (27), w/o Lungpuilan Gondaimei of Makhuam (Marangching) Part-5.Her husband is also believed to be trapped and buried under the debris.
It may be mentioned that five villagers of Makhuam (Marangching) remained missing following the tragic landslide.
With one more body retrieved on Sunday, the death toll has risen to 56 while five bodies are still missing.
The body of Thuisiniiu has been deposited to JNIMS morgue.
Meanwhile, the review meeting in connection with the search operation, which was rescheduled to Monday, has been deferred to TUesday.
The body recovered on Sunday was among the 79 confirmed victims, including her husband Lungpuilan Gondaimei and three other locals, of the tragic landslide which struck at Makhuam railway construction camp on June 30 .
However, her husband and four other persons remain untraceable even after 18 days since the search and rescue operations was launched following the catastrophe.
The missing locals include Thu-isinliu's husband Lungpuilan Gondaimei, Jianthaoliu Gondaimei, Chunthuiliu Gondaimei and Ka-bamgai Gondaimei.
So far, the search and rescue team has recovered 56 bodies trapped under the landslide debris, while 18 injured persons were rescued safely from the disaster-hit site.
Over 700 personnel from NDRF, SDRF, Police, Fire services, Territorial Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF and local volunteers are engaged in the ongoing rescue work.
The team continued its operation till the 18th day to search for the five missing persons from the site with the help of over 30 heavy construction machines.
The five missing persons include one Territorial Army personnel, one railway worker and three local.
A review meeting on the ongoing search and rescue operations by Disaster and Relief Management minister Awangbow Newmai was actually scheduled to be held on Saturday.
However, with meeting postponed till Tuesday, the search and rescue team will continue its operation to trace the remaining missing victims.
