Thoubal, May 17 2020: Joint Coordination Committee on Wildlife & Biodiversity (JCCWB), Manipur has released one lesser whistling duck at safe habitat at Loktak Lake, today.

The duck variety which is included in IUCN least concern list was rescued by one Oinam Ramananda @ Rabi Singh, S/o Oinam Chinglen Singh of Sekmaijin Maning Leikai from his paddy field yesterday.

On the other hand, a combined team of Forest Department, JCCWB Manipur and Sekmaijing Makha Naharol Club seized 8 dead birds and bird traps yesterday from Khoidum Pat.

However, people who laid the trap could be nabbed by the team.

Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the drive, Range Forest Officer Kakching, N Munal Meitei warned that killing wild birds and animals is a punishable offence as per the law of the land.

He then appealed all to contribute their share in protecting the wild animals and inform the Forest Department in case anyone is found attempting to trap wild birds and animals.
