Imphal, January 17 2024:
Expressing grave concern over persistent attacks by Kuki militants in Moreh and foothill areas of the state, a delegation of four Congress MLAs called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey while seeking immediate attention from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Congress MLAs Okram Ibobi, K Meghachandra, K Ranjit and Th Lokeshwar met the Governor at Raj Bhavan around 6 pm Wednesday.
Interacting with the media after the meeting, CLP leader Okram Ibobi said that even the special commandos are not safe in Moreh from attacks by Kuki militants using sophisticated weapons and lethal bombs.
Regardless of the fact that prime duty of the government is to protect public property and lives the incumbent government is unable to control the situation, charged the former chief minister.
As the Congress party cannot remain silent when the people are suffering and state forces are exposed to risk, they met the Governor to seek intervention from the Central government, he said.
Decrying alleged silence of the Central government over the situation, he enquired if Manipur is not part of the country.
Unless the Centre take up immediate measures to control the situation, the situation might aggravate and take an ugly, he cautioned while adding that intervention from the MHA will be more effective in quelling the violence.
He also said that the Governor assured to communicate with the ministry and other agencies concerned.
She also called senior officials of Assam Rifles to take up necessary steps, Ibobi added.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president MLA K Meghachandra said that they played the audio sent by SP Moreh and visuals of the violence before the Governor and apprised her about the situation in the border town.
Seeing the visuals from the border town, the Governor expressed shock and confided that she could do nothing but to relay their appeals to the ministry or the government, the MLA said.
