Public movement for ILP going stronger; OMIPM joins

Under the aegis of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) which is spearheading the movement for implementation of ILP system in the State, a sit-in-protest was staged by Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Students' Union at the premises of the academy here today wherein staffs of the academy also joined.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest demonstration, Moirangthem Brajamani, visiting guru of JNMDA observed that the unchecked influx of outsiders locals into the State has posed a serious threat to the existence of indigenous people and this problem can be solved only by implementing ILP system in the State.

He also said that the ongoing public movement for enforcement of the system is legitimate and reasonable and pointed out that strategically located places like Thangal Bazar, Paona Bazar and several other areas are today dominated mostly by outsiders.
Saying that identification of non-locals in Meghalaya has been already started by the government there as a measure to protect its indigenous people, he appealed to the government to implement the system without any further delay.
Th Biren, secretary of JNMDA Students' Union, who was also present, said that MLAs in some constituencies are using non-locals as vote bank which is unfortunate and appealed to them to stop such misconduct.
On the other hand, extending support to the ongoing demand for enforcement of ILP system in the State, a massive sit-in-protest cum public meeting was organized jointly by 15 clubs of Wangjing; women folks; Progressive English School and Institute of Royal Education at Wangjing Bazar today.
In connection with the demand, Heingang Thangapat Mapal Meira Paibi Lup also staged a sit-in-protest at Heingang Thangapt Mapal Community Hall during which the protesters demanded the government to implement the Inner Line Permit System in the State to save the indigenous people as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Organization for Movement of Indigenous Peoples of Manipur (OMIPM) has pledged to fight any attempt to divert or suppress the ongoing concerted movement for implementation of ILP system which is the wishes of the people.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here, S Umakanta Mangang, convener of OMIPM asserted that there is no doubt that the rampant influx of outsiders is posing a serious threat to the existence of indigenous people and announced that the organization will extend moral and physical support to the ongoing public movement.
He also said that it is necessary to understand together all possible steps and measures for ensuring implementation of ILP system in the State at the earliest.
