Sit in staged denouncing amalgamation of schools

Imphal, July 16 2019:
Denouncing the decision of the Education Department to combine Urup Primary Madrassa School with Urup High School, located in Urup Meitei Khun, a sit in protest was staged at Urup Salanpham by the locals today.
Several pla cards denouncing the order of the department and decrying the shifting of Urup Primary Madrassa School, situated in Urup Salanpham to another location and demanding revocation of the order, were raised during the sit in protest.
Social activist MI Khan said that the amalgamation of the said schools by State Government and the Department concerned is a complete violation of the minority Muslims.
Maintaining that Urup Salanpham is a village with a total of 3000 population and 1200 voters and no Government school is set up in the place.
The Urup High School is located more then three Kms away from the village and on the other side of Iril river, he said and added that the students of Urup Primary Madrassa School have to pass the old suspension bridge to reach the school and the students have to travel six kms on an alternate road.
The Urup Primary Madrassa School has a total strength of 100 students.
Lauding the initiative of the State Government to amalgamate schools in the State, he appealed the Government and the department concerned not to shift the primary school and leave it as is for the minority Muslims.
