Jiribam, June 16 2012:
With onset of rainy season and moderate rainfall in the hill areas for the past few days, National Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam) has remained cut off since yesterday following landslides at various points.
According to reports received by Hueiyen Lanpao, landslides have occurred at many places in between Keiphundai to Nung Dolan and between Barak and Maku, thus blocking the highway and disrupting movement of vehicles.
Two truck-size huge boulders are blocking the highway in Nung Dolan area, which would be difficult to remove and clear the road.
BRTF men are trying their level best to clear the landslides and make passage for the Imphal bound goods laden trucks stranded at Jiribam and other places along the highway.

However, they are unable to clear the two huge boulders in Nung Dolan area even after requisition of two JCB dozers.
With no options left, BRTF officials are considering use of dynamites to break the boulders.
Sources said that removal of the two boulders blocking the highway is not expected at least till late evening tomorrow.
Even though some portions of the highways have been repaired, the condition of the road along most stretches is so bad that it is dangerous for goods laden trucks to ply along the highway during the rainy season.
While the condition of road in between Barak and Oinamlong is not so good, it is in their worst condition in between Shanti Khunou and Nung Dolan.
Even in areas where there is no landslide, the deplorable condition of the highway makes it difficult for trucks to go along the highway with loads.
