Minister Karam Shyam inaugurates Saksham 2020 for fuel conservation

Imphal, January 16 2020:
The one-month long fuel conservation campaign of Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), Saksham 2020, was launched today at Tribal Research Institute, DM College campus, Dewlahland.
This flagship program strives to conserve petroleum products in all spheres of human activities so that supplies of these scarce resources last longer.
The function was organised by Public Sector Oil & Gas Companies in Manipur in association with PCRA under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India.
Speaking as the chief guest, CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam stressed on the importance of creating awareness about the conservation of petroleum products like coal, gas and other oils which are likely to be exhausted in the next 40-50 years.
He said that he also want to convey a message in the minds of school students about the judicious use of these products so as to conserve it for future and ensuring a healthy environment.
Drawing the attention of the students present at the function, Minister Karam Shyam suggested using of cycles for transport and not to feel ashamed of doing good things.
Human beings are the greatest of all living beings in their ability to think about the future and service to mankind, he added.
The Minister further highlighted that children should try to think good thoughts, consult with their parents, clear concepts about exam courses and do good in order to gain wisdom in life.
Educated people who lack wisdom usually commit crimes in our society.
Teachers should set aside at least 5-10 minutes for rendering moral education, discipline, behaviour, etiquette to the students apart from course curriculum, the Minister said.
Advising the students to think good about others, he said, "Our future lies in your hands".
Karam Shyam also appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision and IOC's initiative in launching the Saksham 2020 campaign.
State Level Coordinator, Oil Industry Manipur, Raj Kumar Mohen Singh emphasized on the tagline of Saksham 2020 : Save fuel, save environment.
He also said that there is a dire need to sensitise citizens about the necessity for fuel conservation as India at present imports around 70 percent of petroleum products from outside countries.
Saksham 2020 pledge was administered during the function to avoid wasteful use of petroleum products so as to build a new and healthy India for the future generations.
Sit and draw paintings competition for school students was held as part of the function.
Saksham 2020 pledge will be observed from January 16 to February 15 .
CAF & PD Commissioner Bobby Waikhom, officials of IOC, transporters and students of different schools of the State took part in the function.
