Imphal, November 15 2019:
In view of the tense situation in the State due to the looming finalisation of Naga peace talks, altogether 10 shumang leela parties under Manipur State Shumang Leela Council have resolved not to exhibit their plays for the time being, including at the Sangai Festival.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today, president of Peace Maker Artist Association, Jiten Kumar Naorem said that the 10 leela parties have stopped staging their plays since a few days back after thorough consultation to extend solidarity to the protest movement launched by Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) .
Stating that their stand will remain valid until the anxiety of the people is pacified with a tangible assurance, Jiten Kumar asserted that shumang leela artistes will fight in their own way if the Central Government inks any agreement with Naga negotiators that hurts the interest of Manipur just to appease a particular group.
The 10 shumang leela parties, Peace Maker Artist Association, Eramdam Manipur Artiste Association, Time Star Artiste Union, Sangai Artiste Association, Lamjingba Artiste Association, Maami Artiste Association, Poklenpokpa Artiste Association, Apunba Artiste Association, Kamakhya Sangeet Mandal and Siroy Artiste Association, have also resolved not to take part in the upcoming Sangai Festival, he added.
