KISG-SANPO bandh effective along NH-2

"Vehicles stay off the road, business establishments down their shutters ", this is the scenario along NH-2 that passes through Sadar Hills and Senapati on the first day of the 48-hr Senapati District bandh imposed by the Joint Committee of Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai(KISG) and Saikul Area Naga People's Organization (SANPO) .
The bandh call has been supported and endorsed by Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, SAHILCA, KSO-SH and other major tribal civil bodies.
Except for those activities exempted from the purview of the bandh, all other activities came to a standstill on account of the bandh.
Not a single vehicle could be seen along the National Highway 2 that passes through the tribal dominated areas of Sadar Hills and Senapati district.
Except for the Pharmacies and other medical related shops, all other business establishment remained close at Kangpokpi, Motbung, Sapormeina and Gamgiphai.
KISG President Thangkam Lupheng while speaking to this correspondent said that until the state Govt.cancelled the June 2011 Home Department Notification wherein more than 120 villages of Saikul Sub-Division under Sadar Hills, Senapati district including some villages of Ukhrul district have been included in Imphal East and Thoubal respectively, there will be no rest.
Today some vehicles which were plying in defiance of the bandh call were seized by the bandh supporters along Saikul-Imphal road on the condition they would be kept in a safe place and released only after the bandh.
The bandh so far has been effective and total in Saikul area, he added.
On the otherhand, Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills Caretaker Chungkam Haokip said, My people along NH-2 within Sadar Hills duly honour the bandh.
Though there is no report of any untoward incident happening, the bandh is very much effective along NH-2, added the KISH Chief.
In the meantime, some vehicles including passenger wingers, which were stranded, were escorted safely along NH-2 by security force.
