The government has relaxed the curfew imposed in Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, and Thoubal districts from 5 am to 2 pm on Monday to facilitate the public purchase essential items with district magistrates (DMs) of the four districts issuing orders in this regard on Sunday.
However, the government extended the ban on mobile internet services in the state till September 20.The suspension of internet services, including VSAT and VPN, has been extended in five districts - Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching - until 3 pm on September 20 .
An order issued by the home department said that the measure is aimed at preventing the spread of disinformation and controlling the law-and-order situation.
However, broadband internet services through ILL and FTTH were conditionally restored on September 12, allowing restricted access and the same will remain.
The order clarified that mobile internet data services will remain suspended due to concerns about the spread of false rumours via social media, which could potentially lead to violent demonstrations, arson, or vandalism.
The suspension of internet and mobile data services was supposed to end September 15 at 3 pm .
