Thoubal, November 14 2019:
The commotion that happened between the police and the public during a mass rally yesterday at Wangjing was unfortunate, said Paonam Shyama Devi, wife of MLA Paonam Brojen yesterday.
The incident happened when a large crowd rallied towards the MLA's residence at Wangjing Wangkhei yesterday as part of protests for saving State's integrity in the face of Government of India and NSCN (IM) nearing a final conclusion to the Naga peace process.
The MLA had gone to Delhi and was not home at the time, said Shyama adding that she was preparing to join the rally organised by All Wangjing Youth Organization (AWYO), an apex body of 10 clubs, when the commotion broke out.
Portfolios and posts are not important when the issue is about the fate of the State, she said stating that the MLA and her as family will work their best to protect State's interest.
"He (P Brojen) will work his best as a representative of the people from within the Government and I will work my best with people of our Kendra," she said.
Meanwhile, AWYO has condemned the incident yesterday and said that it was a 'misunderstanding' between the police and the public during the 'peaceful Meira rally' .
Speaking to media persons, AWYO convenor Abujam Akela said that no one should politicise the incident of yesterday night.
Blaming 'some vested interest persons' for causing the 'unfortunate incident,' he expressed sympathy to the police personnel who were injured during the commotion.
He lauded the public for their support and expressed gratitude to Thoubal Police for their efforts in maintaining order during the rally.
