Mediation centre at HC soon, says chief justice

Chief justice Siddharth Mridul of the High Court of Manipur has announced that a permanent mediation centre would be established soon at the court as preparations for the same had already begun.
Chief justice Siddharth disclosed the plan at the inaugural session of the 40-hour mediation training programme jointly organised by the High Court of Manipur, High Court Legal Services Committee and Mediation Conciliation Project Committee of the Supreme Court of India.
As chief guest at of inauguration programme, Siddharth Mridul said the 40 hours mediation training programme is being conducted specifically for advocates of High Court Bar Association.
Mediation remains an effective alternative for reaching understanding between two arguing parties as it is a mechanism supporting mutual respect, dialogue and reconciliation, he said adding that mediation not only helps in early settlement of disputes but also does not affect past relation.
According to the chief justice, the High Court Legal Services Committee is planning to open a permanent mediation centre at the High Court of Manipur to the state objective to aid early settlement of disputes and lessen burden of the court.
The inaugural session of the training programme was also attended by Manipur State Legal Services Authority executive chairman justice A Bimol Singh, High Court Legal Services Committee chairperson justice A Guneshwar Sharma, High Court of Manipur judge justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu, Bar Council of Manipur chairman S Iboyaima Singh, High Court Bar Association president Y Nirmolchand, High Court Legal Services Committee secretary N Rajnikanta, High Court of Manipur registrar general Ojesh Mutum, senior advocates and trainees.
Around 30 trainees are taking part in the mediation training programme.
Two potential trainers of the Mediation Conciliation Project Commitfee of the Supreme Court of India namely advocates Deepak Kumar Shingra and Reema Bhandari will impart mediation training to the participants while advocate VP Thankachan will be the observer.
