Speak out the truth, HRA extrajudicial king witnesses

Maintaining that cooperation from the witnesses and victims' families in the probe conducted by CBI's SIT into the alleged extrajudicial killings in the State is of paramount importance, Babloo Loitongbam, executive director of Human Rights Alert (HRA) appealed to all the witnesses of the incidents to speak out the truth and give their statement without fear.
Addressing a press meet held at his office located at Kwakeithel today, Babloo informed that the Supreme Court of India heard the case of Extra Judicial Execution Victim Families Association Vs Union of India yesterday.
He elaborated that a double bench of the apex Court comprising of Justice Madan Lukur and Justice U Lalit heard the case and added that CBI's SIT submitted the status report of the investigation, wherein, they informed about that 13 FIRs for murder with common intention (under section 302 and 34 IPC) against the police and the armed forces have been registered.
He said that Additional Solicitor General representing CBI also assured the Court that they might be able to make some progress on these cases by mid of May this year.
The bench directed the SIT to expedite the investigation and fixed the next hearing on April 16, he added.
Senior Advocate Colin Gonsalves, representing the petitioners, pointed out that the names of the security personnel involved in the alleged fake encounter cases, which are already identified, are not mentioned in the FIRs filed by the CBI.
EEVFAM secretary Edina Yengkhom who attended the press meet said that many of the family members regularly call her up through phones and enquired about their lost sons and husbands.
