Seven AMSU members freed

Seven members of the All Manipur Students ' Union (AMSU) who were detained in police custody in connection with the ILP protest were released today.
The released members were accorded a warm welcome at AMSU headquarters.
The seven members who were released today are -AMSU Hqs advisor Thokchom Suresh, vice-president Kangabam Dhanajit, former AMSU Imphal East president Soram Somokanta, AMSU Bishnupur district committee president Thiyam Kabichandra Meitei, organisation secretary Khangembam Shining, joint secretary Ningthoujam Robindro and general secretary Konjengbam Premkanta.
Four of these union members from Bishnupur district committee were arrested on July 13 and jailed on July 15 after being produced before the Court.
Members of AMSU Hqs and Imphal East were arrested and jailed on July 15 and 17 respectively.
AMSU headquarters received the seven members with a grand celebration today.
Speaking at the event, AMSU Hqs secretary Sanasam Subhaschandra said the union would not let up the demand for ILP at any cost.
The State Government had attempted to suppress the issue by arresting student protesters, he said.
The students' body is all set to launch more intense forms of agitation to strengthen the people's demand for ILP, he added.
AMSU advisors Irengbam Jamesbond and Sanayaima were also present at the event.
JCILPS and its students' wing also organised a similar welcome event for the seven AMSU members at Sagolband Meino Leirak.
