International Day of Older Persons celebrated

The Integrated Rural Development and Educational Organisation (IRDEO) RRTC (Ageing) NE celebrated the International Day of Older Persons at IRDEO Complex, Wangbal in Thoubal district yesterday.
The celebration was based on the theme "Ageing With Dignity, Dignity at Every Stage, Every Age" under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The celebration was attended by former Minister Dr Moirangthem Nara Singh as the chief guest; Dr Ksh Manglem Singh, former State Chief Medical Officer as the functional president and Mutum Nabachandra Singh, retd Deputy Director, State Horticulture Department; Dr Kh Shantikumar Singh, Senior Consultant Surgeon and H Rakho Singh, former Pradhan as the guests of honour.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr Moirangthem Nara said that in order to extend human lifespan there is a pertinent requirement for better healthcare facilities, improved delivery system of healthcare services, development in medical sciences and increased attention on what one consumes.
In some developed countries, the Government has made provisions for free education upto university level and free healthcare services for their people to extend lifespan upto 120 years, said Dr Nara.
He further highlighted the need to host similar events to increase awareness among elderly citizens about various issues.
