Tree saplings planted

Somsai Battalion under the aegis of IGAR(S) conducted a tree plantation drive at Tusom, Ukhrul district on August 11. Troops of Assam Rifles and villagers of the area planted a total 400 saplings to spread awareness on the importance of conserving forest, said a statement of IGAR(S) .
During the drive, 270 flags were also distributed to the villagers.
Moreover, Loktak Battalion also participated in the Heritage Walk and carried out a tree plantation drive in Lamdan village of Bishnupur district on August 10 .
The Heritage Walk was conducted in coordination with the Directorate of University & Higher Education, Government of Manipur to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the Battle of Imphal & Kohima.
As part of the event, a team of Loktak Battalion also conducted a lecture on opportunities to join Indian Armed Forces for NCC Cadets.
Keithelmanbi Battalion also organised a tree plantation drive in Lilong on August 10 to commemorate 75 years of India's Independence.
Members of local clubs, Lilong Masjid Committee, School students, ESMs and farmers took part in the drive and planted about 1500 saplings.
