Sit-in against deplorable road condition staged

Imphal, March 11 2018: Womenfolk staged a sit-in-protest at Khurai Chaithabi Leirak, Imphal East today in protest against the deplorable condition of the road stretch between Chaithabi Leirak and Salanthong, Khurai Nandeibam Leikai.

Speaking to media persons during the protest, Huidrom Leibakleima Devi, a resident of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai decried the authorities concerned, including the local MLA for not paying heed to their plea to repair and blacktop the road stretch.

She informed that the womenfolks and locals of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai, particularly the residents along the road stretch approached the local MLA in the past and complaint about the pathetic road condition of Chaithabi Leirak.

She said that the MLA gave assurance to them that the road would be repaired before the Yaoshang Festival.

However, the assurance has not been translated into action till date, she rued.

She also regretted that the deplorable road condition causes many inconveniences to the locals and passers-by, including occurrence of minor road accident and spread of air borne diseases such as cough and fever due to the dust produced from the road.

She then cautioned that the road would be blocked from March 22 in case the concerned authorities fail to repair and blacktop the road by March 21 .
