FIDM, Punshilok Meira Paibi oppose arrest of village volunteers

Imphal, February 11 2025:
Federation of Indigenous People's Democratic Movement (FIDM) and Punshilok Meira Paibi have strongly opposed the arrest of village volunteers by State and Central forces since the eruption of violence in Manipur on May 3, 2023.Notably, Punshilok Meira Paibi staged a sit-in protest in this connection at Langol Game Village Zone-II.
Women and students actively participated in the protest and wielded many placards.
A press release issued by W Memcha, president, Punshilok Meira Paibi said that arrest of village volunteers while treating them as militants should be immediately stopped.
It also called for the repeal of AFSPA from Manipur.
Additionally, in a press release, FIDM demanded both the Central and State forces to launch a military crackdown on Kuki militants and initiate legal action against widespread poppy cultivation.
FIDM also appealed against arresting or lodging FIRs against village volunteers who are merely protecting their homes.
It further called for the unconditional release of all village volunteers who have been arrested by security forces so far.
