Anemia free Manipur campaign launched at Thanga, Karang

Bharat Vikas Parishad, Manipur in association with the Bharat Vikas Parishad, Thanga Branch, Eastern Motors, Chingmeirong, Imphal and Good Karma Foundation, Thanga launched the first phase of "Anemia Free Manipur Campaign" today at Thanga village and Karang island.
Heisnam Balkrisna Singh, Director of Information & Public Relations, Manipur launched the awareness campaign at the Children's Model Academy, Thanga Khunjem Leikai in the presence of about seven hundred school children and teachers.
Dr Th Priscilla conducted the awareness campaign by delivering speech on the cause, symptoms and preventive measures of anemia.
The campaign was also conducted at the Ideal English School, Thanga Khoirom Leikai, Agape Junior High School, Thanga Ithing Leikai and Karang Island community hall respectively where hundreds of school children, teachers and villagers were present.
Bharat Vikas Parishad, Manipur started the Anemia Free Manipur awareness campaign at Thanga village and Karang Island with an objective of reducing anemia in Manipur on the line and strategy adopted by "Anemia Mukt Bharat" a Nationwide campaign on reduction in prevalence of anemia by 3 percentage points per year among children, adolescents and women in the reproductive age group (15-49 years) between the year 2018 and 2022.Dr Hemam Priyosakhi Devi, Professor of ENT, RIMS, Imphal and president of Bharat Vikas Parishad, Manipur, O Maipakchao Singh, president of BVP, Thanga Branch, Sinam Pritam Singh, CEO of Eastern Motors, Chingmeirong, Heikrujam Joybi, official of Orthopaedic Department of RIMS, Imphal and community leaders attended the awareness campaign.
The second phase of "Anemia Free Manipur Campaign" will be held on February 13 at Chairenlakpa Community Hall, Thanga Chingkha Leikai where screening and detection of anemia among mothers and children and free distribution of medical kits will be organised.
It may be mentioned that Anemia is a condition in which the number of red blood cells or their oxygen-carrying capacity is insufficient to meet the body's physiological requirements, which vary by age, sex, altitude, smoking habits, and during pregnancy.
The manifestations of anemia vary by its severity and range from fatigue, weakness, dizziness and drowsiness to impaired cognitive development of children and increased morbidity.
Anemia is defined as haemoglobin concentration below established cut-off levels in the blood.
