Imphal, August 10, 2014:
Federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FREINDS) which had played active role in various issues including implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State has been dissolved today.
However, the civil society organization will continue to support the steps taken up by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) which is spearheading the movement for implementation of ILP system in the State currently.
Announcing this during a press meet held at its office located at Keishampat here today, Sapamcha Jadumani, president of FREINDS, said that since its establishment in 2005, FREINDS has launched a sustained movement for enforcement of ILP system in the State and and now the movement is being spearheaded by Joint Committee on ILP System.
In such a situation, it would look odd and give out a wrong message if FREINDS is to resume its movement.
So, the decision to dissolve FREINDS has been taken.
But the decision is not to downplay the movement for implementation of ILP system currently being led by JCILPS but to give more force to the movement.
He then informed that a new organization christened as Indigenous People's Association of Kangleipak (IPAK) has been formed with himself as its convener.
Stating that the organization had once constituted a committee called Technical Committee on ILP System in Manipur and submitted a report to Chief Minister for implementation of ILP system in the State as soon as possible, Jadumani added that the organization had opened its branch at Jiribam and has been checking entry of non-locals without proper identification documents.
He also said that volunteers of the organization have curbed various crimes committed by non-locals in different parts of the State including Bishnupur, Thoubal, Senapati, Ukhrul and Chandel district.
