Training programme on entrepreneurship development through scientific pig farming begins

A 5-day training programme on "Entrepreneurship Development through Scientific Pig Farming in NE India" kicked off today at Veterinary Hospital, Heingang AwangLeikai.
The training programme was organised by All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP), on Pig, Manipur Centre, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal in collaboration with Social Integrity Boys Association (SIBA) and Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur under the sponsorship of ICAR - National Research Centre (NRC) on Pig, Guwahati.
The inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including Sapam Pramodini Devi, Member, Heingang Gram Panchayat; Dr Mangsatabam Noijit Singh, Assistant Professor (Senior Grade), Department of Animal Sciences, College of Agriculture (COA), CAU, Imphal; Thokchom Shyam, president SIBA; Mayanglambam Khelendro Singh, president, AIMS; A Bale, MSC (Organic Agriculture), Wageningen University, Netherlands and Dr Y Damodar Singh, Head, Department of Animal Sciences, COA, CAU, Imphal.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Noijit said that AlCRP on Pig project is being implemented in the State with funds from ICAR-NRC, Guwahati.
He continued that under the project, awareness and training programmes on scientific pig farming have been conducted to promote entrepreneurship among the youths of Manipur.
He also highlighted the importance of pigs for food and economic security in the country, especially among weaker sections of the society.
He expressed that it is important to acquire adequate knowledge on Ihe feeding, practice care and management of pigs to carry out piggery farming which is a suitable and lucrative form of farming in the Northeastern region.
Furthermore, Dr Norjit appealed to the farmers to participate in the training programme with enthusiasm and learn new knowledge/ skills to improve their farming activities.
