Imphal, December 09 2024:
Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday in New Delhi to discuss the ongoing crisis in the state, and urged for immediate intervention by the centre to find an early solution.
Speaker Satyabrata reportedly called on the Union Home Minister at the Parliament House around 12:20 pm and discussed in detail the conflict situation in Manipur.
During the meeting lasting for around 15 minutes, Satyabrata highlighted the issues gripping the state following the crisis on May 3 last year.
In a telephonic conversation with The People's Chronicle, Speaker Satyabrata said that he had urged Amit Shah to intervene and bring about a solution at the earliest.
Noting that people of Manipur have been questioning inability by the state and central governments to resolve the crisis, he explained that, as a representative of the people, he went to Delhi to air the people's concerns directly to the Centre.
While the state and central governments have taken steps for immediate relief, both failed to implement long-term measures to resolve the crisis, conceded Satyabrata, adding that he urged Amit Shah to intervene without delay and work out a lasting solution.
He also informed the Home Minister that many small businesses in the state are suffering due to the volatile situation in Moreh, shortage of essential commodities in Imphal owing to disruption to transportation along the national highways, skyrocketing of price of commodities, and public blaming their representatives for the hardships caused.
During the meeting, Amit Shah demonstrated understanding of the prevailing situation in Manipur and informed him that both the central and state governments had been doing everything possible to restore peace in the state and would continue their efforts in the future, said Satyabrata.
He also quoted the Union Home Minister as saying that the Centre is taking measures to reopen both national highways in the state.
Amit Shah further assured that the Centre would take swift action to resolve the crisis as soon as possible.
The Speaker also urged the Union Home Minister to visit the state, assess the problems faced by the people, and help bring about a permanent solution to the ongoing crisis at the earliest.
