Imphal, April 09 2022:
Chief minister N Biren said that the government will launch a year-long drive against illegal encroachers so as to evict them from government and reserved forest lands.
Attending a felicitation function hosted in his honour by BJP Khundrakpam Mandal in association with Peace and Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) at Lainingthou Puthiba Lampak, Yumnam Khunou on Saturday, Biren clarified on the issues surrounding Yaithibi Loukol and said that illegal encroachers were found settling on government land in the area and the district administration took up the drive.
The government had already paid compensation for the land area acquired by the government.
The reason why the government did not issue any legal notice before the eviction drive was because they were encroachers and they did not have any land ownership document, he reasoned.
On the other hand, there are reports of illegal encroachment in hills, lakes, river banks and other areas in different parts of the state, Biren said and asked such illegal encroachers to vacate before the government forcefully evicts them.
He also appealed to all to protect agricultural land for the future of the state.
The chief minister also called upon the people of the state to help in eradicating corruption from the state.
He said that both the giver and receiver are equally guilty in corruption and both will face action if apprehended.
He urged the public to give up the habit of accepting cash in times of elections.
He then said that the government will take up an initiative to provide income generation opportunities to every household of the state.
BJP Khundrakpam Mandal and PDCC submitted a memorandum to the CM with the appeal to widen the Imphal-Saikul Road, assess Dolaithabi project, start construction of Imphal East district hospital at Sagolmang, and renovation of Sawombung - Sagolmang road among other demands.
