INDIA Bloc Manipur urges Govt to pass law for compensation, rehabilitation & settlement of IDPs

Imphal, August 08 2024: The INDIA Bloc Manipur has asserted that the Government should pass an appropriate law covering compensation, rehabilitation and settlement of people who have been displaced by the ongoing conflict in Manipur.

Briefing media persons today at Congress Bhawan, Kh Debabrata, working president of the Congress party, said that internally displaced people (IDPs) will face a lot of difficulties/ issues if an appropriate Act is not implemented to secure their future.

He asserted that the present conflict which has been going on in the State for more than 15 months cannot be compared with the Delhi Riot, Gujarat Riot and Sikh Riot.

"Government should provide a different rehabilitation package unlike the package given to victims of 1987 Sikh Riot", said Debabrata while adding that qualified officers should be appointed to enforce the new Act.

Further, Debabrata appealed to the Government to table and pass a new law in the ongoing State Assembly session to protect the houses & other properties of the IDPs and resettle them at their original places.
