Village chief lodges police complaint

A case of land encroachment has come to light in Kangpokpi district, threatening to disrupt the delicate peace in the region.
The Leilon Khunou village chief Haopu Vaiphei has formally reported the incident to the Kangpokpi SP, urging immediate intervention to prevent further escalation.
According to the report, Aimson Abonmai, a resident of Konsakhul village, along with others, allegedly conducted land levelling activities near L Munlai village on January 6.The operation, carried out using heavy machinery such as JCBs, was reportedly done without the prior knowledge or consent of the landowner.
The area in question reportedly lies within the jurisdiction of Leilon Khunou village.
The encroachment has stirred unrest among the local community, with fears of potential conflict if the issue remains unresolved.
"This activity has created chaos and disturbed the community peace and harmony in the area.
If left unattended, it could lead to misunderstanding and bloodshed," Vaiphei said in his letter to law enforcement authorities.
Beyond the alleged encroachment, the conduct of the accused parties toward the landowner has been described as "inappropriate and intolerable," further exacerbating tensions.
The village chief has called for strict and immediate legal action to address the issue and restore peace.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges of land disputes in the region, emphasising the need for swift and decisive measures to prevent conflicts and maintain harmony among communities.
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the next course of action.
