Rampage at private hospital

Imphal, January 08 2014:
Locals of Top Khongnangmakhong under Porompat Police Station stormed at Advance Speciality Hospital and Research Centre, a private health care centre located at Palace Compound here following the death of a man at the hospital today.
The deceased has been identified as Kshetrimayum Bhimo alias Heremani (50), s/o Ksh Inaobi of Top Khongnangmakhong near Mayanglambam Lampak in Imphal East.
According to family members, Heramani was discharged from the Hospital after a keyhole surgery for removal of gall stones, but he was admitted to the hospital again today after he began to have problem while breathing.
He died apparently due to negligence of the attending doctors, the family members alleged.
The doctor, who attended the deceased Heramani, has been identified as one Dr Shyamchand.
He is said to be working at JNIMS, Porompat as well.
The irate locals broke several window panes and also destroyed a television set inside the hospital.
However, the police managed to control the mob and bring the situation under control after sometime.
Meanwhile, the dead body has been sent to JNIMS Mortuary for post-mortem examination.
On the other hand, the management of Advance Hospital deeply regretted the death of Heramani but condemned the rampage.
Managing Director of Advance Hospital Dr Th Ibomcha told media persons that the deceased Heramani was admitted to the hospital and underwent a keyhole surgery for removal of gall stones on January 6.He was discharged from the hospital today as he was fully recovered, but he was admitted to the hospital again after he got tumbled down from the stairs of his home.
Heramani might have had BP stroke or heart attack at his home and there was no question of negligence of the doctors during the keyhole surgery.
The rampage caused by the family members and some other people from Heramani's locality without knowing the exact cause of the death was quite unfortunate.
The family members had refused to talk with the hospital management.
Properties worth about Rs.5 lakhs were destroyed by the mob, the Managing Director added.
