Imphal, September 07 2024:
In response to the escalating violence perpetrated by Kuki militants who are now targeting unarmed civilians, Manipur police have deployed anti-drone systems and military choppers to counter the increasing use of drones and long-range rocket attacks.
As the Kuki militants intensify their aerial assaults, state and central security forces are coordinating efforts to bolster defenses, with advanced weaponry and surveillance operations now in place across the most vulnerable areas.
During a press conference held at the Manipur Police Headquarters in Babupara, here, on Saturday, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kabob K said that the crisis has taken a dangerous turn with the introduction of aerial warfare, including drone strikes and long-range rocket attacks.
IGP Kabob K confirmed that two police personnel, including an inspector, were injured in a sudden attack by miscreants on Friday night at 2nd and 7th MR complexes.
He revealed that senior officers from the state police and central security forces are holding regular meetings to assess the situation and devise strategies to tackle the ongoing violence.
Anti-drone equipment and other advanced weaponry have been deployed in the fringe areas near the foothills, where the conflict has escalated.
The process of acquiring more sophisticated arms to counter the escalating threat is underway.
The recent surge in violence has seen Kuki militants launching attacks on civilians in fringe areas between Bishnupur and Churachandpur, as well as between Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts.
Combined security forces have conducted combing operations in response, destroying two bunkers in Molsang village and another bunker in Laika Mualsau village.
In one of the most devastating incidents, Kuki militants fired long-range rockets at Moirang Khoiru Leikai, resulting in the death of a 78-year-old civilian, RK Rabei, and injuring six others.
