Two books of B Jayantakumar Sharma released

Two Manipuri books written by noted litterateur and lyricist B.Jayantakumar Sharma were formally released during a function at Lamyanba Sanglen, Palace compound
here today.
During the release of 'Cleopatra: Apam Nungshi Langthakpi', an epic poem and 'Greek ki Ariba Laishing amadi Thouna Phaba Thouna Phabising' published by L.K Publications Imphal, Prof.Naorem Khagendra, former convener of Manipuri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi; Prof.Elangbam Dinamani, President of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad and Dr.RK Nimai, Commissioner of Art & Culture, Manipur took the dais as presidium members.
Longjam Joychandra, former Director of JN Manipur Dance Academy introduced the Manipuri prose book 'Greek ki Ariba Laishing amadi Thouna Phaba Thouna Phabising', while Thokchom Ibohanbi, Head of Manipuri Department, DM College of Arts gave his introduction to the Manipuri epic poem 'Cleopatra' .

The author of the books B.Jayantakumar Sharma, who is also the President of Hueiyen Lanpao Columnists' Forum said, 'as inspired by the story of Queen Cleopatra from H.Rider Heggard's novel 'Cleopatra, Woman of Passion', he began writing the story in Manipuri in the poetic style and completed his work by September 19, 1997' .
The other book 'Greek ki Ariba Laishing amadi Thouna Phaba Thouna Phabising' written in the prose style was a Manipuri adaptation from WHD Rouse's English work 'Gods; Heroes and Men of Ancient Greece', stated the author while speaking at the book release function.
All the speakers during the function expressed optimism that the 2 books of the author written in Manipuri would become a valuable treasure to those who want to study the history, literature and culture of the Greek people.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr.RK Nimai said that it has been a big challenge to write the Greek story in Manipuri language, while acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the writer in accomplishing the task.
In his speech, Prof.Khagendra applauded the author for his wisdom and skills in writing the book 'Cleopatra' in a beautiful poetic form.
Giving his speech as a presidium member, Prof.Dinamani lauded B.Jayantakumar as a poet from the very beginning.
He expressed optimism that the 2 books will be of great value to the Manipuri readers.
The 2 books are published by L.K Publication, Brhamapur Laipubam Leikai, Imphal.
Jayantakumar Sharma, who has so far written a number of books of lyrics, folk tales and religious pieces, retired as Assistant Station Director of All India Radio, Imphal in 1991 .
Besides associating with a number of cultural and literature organizations in the state, he also served as the President of Manipur Sahitya Parishad.
