Moreh, July 07 2022:
In the aftermath of the killings of two Tamil youths from Moreh on July 5, crossing border between Tamu of Myanmar and Moreh of Manipur has been restricted, disallowing Myanmarese people from coming to Moreh and vice versa.
Moreh remains tense as the Myanmarese government is yet to hand over the bodies of the two, who were shot dead at Tamu town, to Manipur.
As such, Tengnoupal DC and Manipur police DIG both came to Moreh to review the situation.
A meeting attended by CSO leaders and higher ups of Manipur police including DIG R-2 Ningshen Worgnam, Tengnoupal SP Golianmang and 3rd IRB CO Salam Somorjit was held at Moreh police inspection bungalow on Thursday.
During the meeting, DIG Ningshen conveyed that the government is trying to bring back the bodies of P Mohan and M Iyarnar at the earliest and the government had already sent letter to the ministry of external affairs in this regard.
The ministry too had contacted the embassy at Yangon Myanmar.
Subsequently, the embassy informed the district administration that a reply will be given shortly, he continued, while urging the people to wait for some time.
Meanwhile, teams of 5th AR, 8 MR, 3rd IRB, commando and Tengnoupal district police personnel have been conducting duty all day round at Indo Myanmar border and Moreh town.
Stringent precautionary measures have been taken up along Indo-Myanmar border since the killing of two autorickshaw drivers at Tamu town.
The Moreh town has been clamped prohibitory order under section 144 of IPC.
Only a few people were seen commuting on the roads and shops remained closed.
