Shopkeepers denounce exorbitant monetary demands

Thoubal, October 06 2024: Aggrieved with excessive monetary demands on the shopkeepers at Wangjing Lamding Keithel, the Wangjing Lamding Shop Keepers Development Association staged a sit-in protest along Imphal to Moreh National Highway near the Keithel today.

Shops, pharmacies and the market place remained shut today as a result of the protest.

The protestors have denounced unmanageable demands for money, including demands by individuals and any form of intimidation against the shopkeepers by any group or organisation in this connection.

Speaking by the sideline of the demonstration, Khundrakpam Gunamani, advisor, WLSKDA said that even as sales have dwindled considerably owing to the protracted conflict, the Association has extended aid numerous times in the past.

Members of the Association have even laid down their lives during the conflict, he asserted.

Stating that the protest was not held in opposition to any specific group or organisation, he advocated the message of peaceful coexistence.
