Imphal, October 06 2021:
Maintaining that BJP cannot win even 15 seats in the 2022 state assembly elections, MPCC president N Loken has dared BJP to enlist 15 candidates who the party believes will emerge victorious in the polls.
Attending a felicitation function organised for new members of Congress party held at Wangjing Tentha in Thoubal district on Wednesday, Loken said that the people of Manipur will give their verdict on whether the BJP government is good for them or not in February next year.
Interestingly, a coalition government, which is heavily depending on its allies to keep the government intact since the sixth month of forming the government, is boasting of forming a single party government.
Public are more than aware of the failed policies of the BJP government and how it failed to control price rise, Loken said.
He went on to ridicule that the BJP-led government is announcing new schemes every week but there is not a single scheme which truly benefited the people of the state.
As the election date approaches, several union ministers are coming to the state frequently to mislead the public and show that they care for the state and its people.
However, people of the state are waiting for February to teach the BJP government the right lesson.
Congress brought development in the state at a faster pace in the 15 years of its rule.
Unfortunately, the BJP government has even failed to fulfil the promises it made, he said and predicted that BJP will see its downfall in the state in 2022 and at the Centre in 2024 .
Addressing the gathering, CLP leader and former chief minister O Ibobi said that Congress leaders are standing firm on saving the democracy and the Constitution framed by Mahatma Gandhi and other leaders of the country.
AICC leader Rahul Gandhi said that let those who want to leave the party depart and continue to fight for democracy by those who want to stay and fight.
On this line, the new members of the party from Wangjing Tentha AC, who joined Congress with the full knowledge of being in the opposition, are brave warriors who come out to save democracy and the party warmly welcomes them.
Their renewed interest in the party is the testimony of the aspiration of the people in the state who now want a change of guard in the governance.
Congress established Manipur University of Culture and only a Congress government can establish a film institute in the state, he added.
Ibobi further said that the party feels happy that Vice President Venkaiah Naidu visited the state on Tuesday.
However, it was unfortunate that the invitation for interaction with world renowned personalities at Darbar Hall mentioned about self-introduction by these personalities, which include renowned figures like Aribam Syam Sharma and Ratan Thiyam.
These are renowned figures and making them to introduce themselves is uncalled for, he pointed out.
AICC CWC member Gaikhangam, MPCC working president I Hemochandra, MLAs TN Haokip, D Korungthang and former MPCC president M Okendro were also present at the event.
