Singjamei CHIC sets example for other centres CHRONICLE NEWS SERVICE IMPHAL: The Community Home Isolation Centre (CHIC) of Singjamei AC, which was inaugurated at Manipur College on Wednesday, is setting an example for similar facilities in assembly segments with utilisation of nurses and doctors of the constituency by Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Y Khemchand, who is also the local MLA.

So far, 24 Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms have been admitted to the centre and their vitals are being monitored every 30 minutes by three nurses as per the instruction of doctors.

Speaking to The People's Chronicle in this regard, speaker Y Khemchand informed that a proper system to fend of the Covid-19 pandemic is not yet defned but the government is doing the best it can.

However, the biggest issue at the moment is that Covid patients exhibiting mild symptoms cannot be all admitted to the hospitals and many do not have the luxury to self-isolate in their homes.

As such, CHIC has been set up to address this problem and prevent the spread of the virus, he added.

Informing that he is bearing all expenses for the centre, the speaker recounted that he did not take any monetary aid from the government in opening a quarantine centre during the last wave of the pandemic.

"It is up to government policy whether to extend aid or not, but for me, it is my responsibility to the people", he said.

Regarding the manpower being used in running the centre, Khemchand maintained that the volunteers of Covid Management Committee are always ready.

Additionally, three unemployed nurses of the AC are currently being utilised at the centre and he is paying them remuneration.

On top of this, a well-known doctor has been engaged and medicines are being provided to the patients, he conveyed.

"The centre is being operated like a mini-hospital and the patients are being well cared for.

The government has assured of taking the responsibility if the condition of any of the patients deteriorate, apart from providing necessary materials to the centre.

Tus, a timely report will be provided to the government to prevent any hiccups and any necessary arrangement would be made according to the rules of the government", the speaker said.
