Imphal, February 06 2021:
Smart Members' Welfare Association has demanded that the assurance given by the Chief Minister on the floor of the House regarding SALAI Holdings Private Ltd should be translated into action.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the Association said that the Chief Minister had said in the ongoing session of Manipur Legislative Assembly that the case relating to main accused Narengbam Samarjit will be under NIA while the case of this company will be put under State jurisdiction.
Waikhom Loveson, general secretary, Smart Members' Welfare Association, requested the Government to make provisions to safeguard the deposits made by depositors or let the company reopen.

He added that most of the depositors had worked hard and deposited the money with high hopes for the future.
Waikhom Loveson told the media that the fate of all the depositors has been uncertain since the announcement made by Narengbam Samarjit, the then managing director of SALAI, about the formation of a de jure Government from London and the Government also seems to be taking no consideration of the hardship being faced by the depositors who had depended on the monthly interest as a means of livelihood.
If the Government does not fulfil the demands of the association and state their stand on the issue by February 15, the association will resort to various forms of agitation including boycott of the upcoming general election, he added.
