Extending solidarity to the ongoing demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State; Keithel Semgat Sagatpa Lup and Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Sinpham & Shaktam Kanba Lup jointly organized a discussion programme on the issue at Ema Leimarol Sidabi (Keithel no 1), Khwairamband Market here today.
Moirangthem Bidhu Devi, president of Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Semgat Sagatpa Lup; executive members of Nupi Keithel Sinpham & Saktam Kanba Lup namely Yumnam Ibempishak; Koijam Ibeyaima; Th Kunjalata and Ibotombi Khuman, co-convener of JCILPS attended the programme as Presidium Members.
Addressing the gathering, Ibotombi Khuman pointed out that the government has declared Keibul Lamjao as a protected area to safeguard the endangered Sangai but ironically it fails to enforce ILP system which is the only possible means to safeguard existence of the indigenous people.
He maintained that the system had been already put in place in other northeastern States like Mizoram, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh long time back but the State of Manipur which has been witnessing ever increasing influx of outsiders has been overlooked it.
The need for implementation of ILP system is much necessary to save the indigenous people.
Since the government has failed to put in place the system, the committee was compelled to launch agitation to demand enforcement of the system, he explained.
Certain resolutions regarding implementation of ILP system in the State were unanimously adopted during the programme.
The gathering resolved to fully endorse every step taken up by JCILPS for implementation of the system; to bar male non-locals from selling wares in Khwairamband Keithel and restrict transportation of market items by non-locals.
