Chandel, Senapati, Kangpokpi, November 04 2015:
Thousands of students in the hill districts of Manipur on Wednesday staged protest rallies against what they called "deletion of Additional English" as Modern Indian Language (MIL) from the syllabus of the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM) .
CHANDEL: Over 1500 students from different schools of Chendel District participated in a rally organized by Chandel District Private Schools Association (CDPSA).
The rally commenced from Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School's Ground and proceeded toward DC Office Complex where a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister was handed over to ADC, Chandel S Sambhunath Singh.
Speaking on the sidelines of the rally, Chandel District Private Schools Association (CDPSA) President Rev RD Joykumar Anal said since BOSEM started implementing the 3 tier language policy, the Hill Districts Schools have been continuously demanding that Additional English should remain as it was before like other state Boards and CBSE.
Rev Joykumar further maintained that it is impossible for schools authorities to appoint language teachers of each community as many students from different communities were enrolled in the School.
As such, the Additional English subject should not be deleted from the BOSEM Syllabus.
The association President also urged the State Government to create a separate Board exclusively for Hill Districts or bifurcate BOSEM into Hill and Valley sections to improve education system in the State.
SENAPATI: Over 4,000 students of the district, consisting of all private and Government schools took out a silent protest rally from Senapati Ground to DC Office.
The rally was organised by All Private Schools Association, Senapati (APSAS), led by its president BK Thomas.
A memorandum on the issue was submitted to the Chief Minister through the office of Deputy Commissioner, Senapati.
BK Thomas stated that the total population of several tribes in the State is still below 10,000 in number which is one criterion for recognition of the tribe's dialect as a recognized language.
Therefore, promotion of their languages/dialects and recognition as a subject of studies is a distant dream.
KANGPOKPI: The rally of various private schools students within Sadar Hills was organized on Wednesday at Kangpokpi to demand the revocation of the State Cabinet resolution on the language issue.
The rally was organized by Sadar Hills Private Schools' Association (SHIPS) as per the executive meeting resolution of Hill District's Recognized Private Schools Association (HIDIPSAM) to lodged their discontentment over the alleged insensitivity of BOSEM towards the grievances of the Hill District Recognized Private Schools and drew the attention of Chief Minister to immediately addresses the grievances of hill recognized private schools in the State.
Around 3000 students from various private schools within Sadar Hills congregated Wednesday morning at around 10.30 am at Brig Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi for the democratic and peaceful rally.
The rally began at around 11 am from Brig Thomas Ground and proceeded towards ZEO via Autonomous District Council, Sadar Hills which further advanced to ADC Complex and submitted a memorandum to SDC (HQ) to be forwarded to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and later culminated at Brig Thomas Ground.
