Imphal, October 04 2015:
Due to lack of proper infrastructural facilities, the 9th Women IRB Battalion stationed at the Khuman Lampak in Imphal has been left with no proper care from the State Government facing difficult problems.
The personnel are housed at different areas of the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex scattering over the Indoor Stadium and Hockey Stadium.
They have been forced to continue to accept the unpleasant situation there.
Sources informed on Sunday even 200 personnel of the 9th Indian Reserve Mahila Battalion cannot be accommodated in the temporary barrack.
The fund allocated for the women battalion in the State Budget is fairly small.
In the 2012-13 Budget, only Rs 1 lakh was allocated for this battalion for office expenses and another Rs 1 lakh meant for other charges.
But in the Budget 2014-15, these were increased by Rs 10 lakh and Rs 3 lakh respectively.
The Government has to look into the problem as the battalion is yet to function properly because of lack of infrastructural facilities.
Being a women battalion, the sources said, at least 50 personnel takes leave every day.
At the same time, they often face difficulties while responding to emergencies.
According to some personnel, the recent agitation by the battalion against its Commanding Officer was not joined by all the personnel.
They said blaming the CO for the entire problem facing the battalion will not be a right move.
"We will not extend support to such demands which are difficult to deal with" .
