Kangabam Ibomcha, the accused in the case of beheading 27-year old Moirangthem Mohon of Kumbi Napat Mayai Leikai, was awarded life imprisonment under IPC section 302 by the Court of Sessions Judge, Bishnupur today.
After the cut-off head of Moirangthem Mohon was found at a field and his body wrapped in a bag was fished out from the river, Kumbi Police station registered an FIR bearing no.17(4) 2012 against the accused Kangabam Ibomcha (53) .
According to Government APP A.Nilachandra, hearing for the case was conducted at the Bishnupur Sessions Court with the plea to punish the accused Ibomcha in the most dreaded murder case.
The Court, after careful hearing, announced the verdict of life imprisonment to the accused who wept on hearing the announcement in the court, said Nilachandra while adding that a team of Kumbi Police later brought him to jail.
It may be recalled that in the afternoon of April 26 in 2012, Ibomcha remained in his house while others were out for participating in the Lai Haraoba festival in the village.
Moirangthem Mohon, one of Ibomcha's friends, with a stick came to Ibomcha's house and they together took meal in the kitchen.
Alleging awkward meals, Mohon began to vandalise the things inside the kitchen along with his stick.
Ibomcha killed Mohon in the kitchen after an altercation.
Later, Ibomcha, in his effort to cover up the incident, put the dead body inside a bag and tried to throw into the Imphal river.
However, as the body was too big for the bag, Ibomcha cut off the head and threw it in the field, while the body in the bag was left in the river.
