Imphal, April 02 2024:
Denouncing the chief minister for not sending the recommendation for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list as suggested by the ministry concerned, World Meetei Council (WMC) has cautioned of launching intense protest if the government fails to send the recommendation before the Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to media persons at Thangjing Hall of Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, WMC Manipur president U Kunjo remarked that the Meetei/Meitei community has no other way to save themselves other than inclusion in the ST list.
Considering the welfare of the future generation, the chief minister should send the required ethnography and socio-economic survey report, he demanded.
The resolutions adopted during the last assembly session including implementation of NRC, border fencing and abrogation of SoO pact with Kuki militants may save the terri tory of Manipur, but not the Meetei community.
In order to shield the Meetei/Meitei inclusion in the ST list is the only means, he reiterated, while adding that several forms of protests including sit-ins, torch rallies will be launched by joining hands with sever al organisations until the recommendation is sent.
