"Peace is the basic requirement to bring about growth.
However, social unrest and structural violence remain important challenges in the way of peace" .
This was stated by Prof..EBijoykumar, Dean of Social sciences, Manipur University during a 'International Peace Conference' held at the Lecture hall of Political Science department, Manipur University here today.
During the programme, Prof..EBijoykumar, Prof.Ksh.
Bimola and Prof..SMangi were honoured with the "Ambassadors of Peace Award" .
Organized jointly by Universal Peace Federation, India and the Department of Political Science, Manipur University, the conference had its theme as "Building nations of peace: Our shared responsibility" .
During the programme, Director of Education, Universal Peace Federation, Asia Dr.Robert S.Kittel delivered lecture on the topic 'Introduction of peace principles' .
Saying that peace should begin from families, Dr.Kittel stressed the need to bring peace with positive thinking among the individuals.
Dr.Chung Sik Yang, Chairman of UPF (Asia), in his keynote speech, said a society is identified by the families within it, hence ideal families are required to mould a good society.
Observing that present day individuals lack dedication, Dr.Chung observed that the sacrifice and dedication are the only means to bring about peace in the society.
People like Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teressa are being honoured even today only because of the sacrifices they made in their lives, he added.
Prof.Ksh Bimola, in her speech, said human beings are the most considerate being among all creatures.
Individuals are most important in bringing peace in society, she continued, while adding that AFSPA 1958 has caused unrest among the people of the state.
