Lakshman Prasad Acharya takes oath as new Governor

Imphal, July 31 2024: Lakshman Prasad Acharya has been sworn in as the new Governor of Manipur on Wednesday with the oath of office and secrecy administered by High Court of Manipur chief justice Siddharth Mridul at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, here.

Prior to taking the oath, Manipur chief secretary read out the letter issued by President Droupadi Murmu appointing Acharya as the new Governor of Manipur.

Chief minister N Biren Singh, Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Th Satyabrata Singh, ministers, former chief ministers O Ibobi Singh and Radhabinod Koijam, MLAs, security advisor, DGP and senior civil, military and police officers attended the oath taking ceremony.

After taking the oath, the newly appointed Governor received the Rashtriya Salute and inspected the Guard of Honour accorded by personnel of Manipur Rifles and India Reserve Battalion.

Later, speaking to the media, Governor Acharya expressed elation on being among the people and praised the natural and scenic beauty of Manipur.

He prayed for swift restoration of peace in the state and urged the people to come forward with open minds, to cooperate with each other and work together for ensuring peace and prosperity in Manipur in the days to come.

Meanwhile, CM Biren told media persons on the sidelines of the ceremony that Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with senior leaders has been holding discussion on steps to restore normalcy in the state, including measures to improve the economy.

Further maintaining that the recently tabled Union Budget aims to generate employment for around 4 crore youths and also includes provision for women empowerment, and improving the infrastructure among others, he urged for accepting it positively and working in unity.

CM Biren further called for issue-based action and doing politics in areas suited for the same, instead of indulging in nonissue-based politics.

Lakshman Prasad Acharya, who is also the Governor of Assam, assumed the charge of office of the Governor of Manipur with effect from the forenoon of July 31, 2024.He has extended his good wishes and greetings to the people of Manipur.
