CM Biren announces Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia

Chief minister N Biren on Thursday visited Tupul Railway Construction Camp, Noney where landslide occurred last night leaving several casualties and dozens buried alive.
Earlier in the morning, CM Biren chaired an emergency meeting and discussed about the massive landslide that brought down a railway yard construction camp.
The meeting decided to launch in tensive rescue operation immediately and accordingly sent medical teams and ambulances to the landslide hit area.
Speaking to media persons near the disaster site, CM Biren conveyed his deepest condolences and shared grief with the bereaved family members.
He informed that the government has decided to provide ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of those deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured persons.
He further maintained that all the expenses including medical treatment, etc., of the injured persons will be borne by the state government.
He also interacted with the people of the nearby area and expressed his gratitude to the villagers for extending their support and co-operation in the rescue mission.
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, Hill Areas Committee chairman D Gangmei, chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, administrative secretaries, senior Army and Manipur Police officials and others accompanied the chief minister during the visit.
Meanwhile, Governor La Ganesan has expressed shock over the incident and conveyed deep condolences to the bereaved family members.
He prayed that God grant peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved family members to bear these profound sorrows.
He also prayed for speedy recovery of injured persons.
Janata Dal (United) national president Rajiv Ranjan Singh MP (Leader Lok Sabha) and Northeast in-charge general secretary Afaque Ahmad Khan MLC also expressed deep condolences to the families who lost their dear ones and those who injured in the landslide incident.
"The party is deeply saddened by this incident and appeal to the government to extend all kinds of support to the grieving families and prays for speedy recovery of injured", said a release by the party national office secretary Mohammad Nisar.
It also added that the party national president along with general secretary in-charge northeast met state JDU president, general secretary organisation and general secretary administration and expressed condolence.
On the other hand, the Zeliangrong Civil Organisations comprising Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students' Union also appreciated the state government and district administration of Noney for immediate response rendered and timely precautionary measures taken up into the unfortunate incident.
The ZCOs in their release also expressed gratitude to the locals for rendering their selfless service at this hour of need by extending support and cooperation to the affected victims.
While stating that it is also shocked and extremely painful to have learned that about eight persons have died in the unfortunate massive landslide incident, the ZCOs prayed for comfort and solace to all the members of the bereaved families in these difficult times and for speedy recovery for those who have grievously injured in the unfortunate incident.
